Autumn is the second growth period of camellias in a year. Management during this period has a major impact on the normal growth and timely blooming of camellias. The following points should be especially noted:

        1. Fertilizing: The Mid-Autumn stage is the best time for camellia autumn growth. Fertilizing should be timely, using flower fertilizer mainly based on phosphorus and potassium or comprehensive organic fertilizer. Several fertilizers can also be applied in rotation, about once every 10 days. In the late autumn stage, camellia growth gradually slows down, and the amount of fertilizer needed gradually decreases. In order to meet the nutrient needs of camellias in winter and before and after blooming, before entering winter dormancy, apply an additional organic solid fertilizer, such as chicken manure powder, etc. This not only meets the needs of camellia (slow) growth in winter, but also has the effect of enhancing cold resistance.

         2. Watering: The principle for watering camellias is "water thoroughly only when completely dry." Maintain the principle of not watering when not dry, and watering thoroughly when watering, so that transpiration remains normal, which helps flower bud differentiation and bud retention. Watering camellias depends on the weather and the soil conditions. When the soil first becomes dry and the camellia is growing normally, and the weather forecast says rain is expected soon, watering can be paused.

         3. Loosening the soil: Loosen and break up the soil in a timely manner. This not only makes it hard for weeds to survive, but also, due to the destruction of capillaries, preserves moisture in the soil and increases the air content in the soil, which is very beneficial to camellia growth.

         4. Bud thinning: Generally completed before mid-October. First cut off weak branches and branches with pests or diseases, keeping healthy branches; then thin the flower buds. The usual method of bud thinning is to cut them off with pointed scissors. The blade should be sharp, and the wound should be smooth to help healing.
