How to manage tea plants well in summer? Please give an introduction to the methods. After continuous picking, a large amount of nutrients in the tea plant's body are consumed. When summer high temperatures arrive, the soil becomes compacted, weeds grow densely, soil fertility declines, and there are many insect pests, affecting normal growth. Therefore, the main task of summer tea garden management is to restore the vitality of the tea plants,...

I. Site selection and land preparation

Select a plot with relatively high terrain, sunny exposure, good drainage and irrigation conditions, deep soil, and medium to above-average fertility that has not been continuously cropped. Before plowing, apply 450 kg of organic fertilizer and 150 kg of calcium magnesium phosphate per mu, then deep plow 25-30 cm. After the fertilizer decomposes, carry out deep plowing and fine harrowing again so that the base fertilizer is fully mixed with the soil, improving the soil's physical and chemical properties and creating good conditions for full development of the lily root system and bulb enlargement. Along with land preparation, open ditches and make beds, with a bed width of 1.4-1.6 m, requiring convenient irrigation and drainage.

II. Selection of seed bulbs

Lilies are planted using vegetative bulbs, and bulbs are divided into large, medium, and small sizes. Generally, selecting medium bulbs of 50-60 g for planting gives the best economic returns. When selecting seed bulbs, note: 1) choose bulbs with 3-5 lateral bulbs to prevent variety degeneration; 2) choose bulbs without brown necrotic patches to prevent disease infection that causes missing plants.

III. Sowing at the proper time

The best sowing period for lilies is from late September to early October, and they do not begin to emerge until early March of the following year. In the red soil hilly areas of the south, the sowing spacing is 40 x 30 cm between rows and plants, ensuring a population density of more than 6,000 plants per mu. When sowing, open the ditch, sow, and cover with soil at the same time, with a soil covering thickness of 3-4 cm. After sowing, the plot must be kept dry, with no standing water.

IV. Strengthen field management

1. Topdressing and drainage. During the overwintering period of lilies, before the soil freezes, apply a winter fertilizer once per mu with 20 kg of urea and 30 kg of potassium chloride. At the same time, combine this with clearing drainage ditches and hilling soil to protect the roots, so that the drainage ditches flow smoothly, preventing standing water in the field and reducing rot of lilies caused by wet damage. In spring, before emergence, apply topdressing twice, each time with 50 kg of ternary sulfur-containing compound fertilizer per mu or 2.5 kg of sulfur. After emergence, spread a layer of rice straw in the field to prevent soil compaction and also to retain moisture, preserve fertilizer, and lower temperature.

2. Use plastic film mulching cultivation. Covering lilies with film for 30-40 days in early spring can shorten the emergence period of lilies by 7-15 days and increase yield by 12%.

3. Topping the stem at the right time. Based on leaf number, when the plant has grown more than 60 leaves and the daily average temperature has not exceeded 23°C, topping the growing point is most suitable. Trials show that topping increases yield compared with not topping, timely topping increases yield compared with late topping, and with timely topping, the more leaves retained, the greater the yield increase.

4. Prevent premature withering of green leaves. The lifespan of functional leaves should be extended. In the later growth stage of lilies, plants with green leaves have larger bulbs and higher yields. For this reason, in late June, when bulb enlargement slows down, apply a foliar fertilizer once with a mixture of 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate plus 0.3%-0.5% urea.

5. Pest and disease control. Within 1-2 days after sowing, spray 50-80 g of acetochlor per mu to prevent dense weed growth. During the growth period of lilies, the main pests and diseases are cutworms, aphids, and viral diseases. In the early stage of viral disease, spray 1.5% plant disease spirit emulsion at 1000 times dilution, or antiviral agent No. 1 at 300 times dilution, once every 10 days, for 2-3 consecutive sprays. For aphids after emergence, spray 50% methamidophos emulsifiable concentrate at 1500 times dilution, or use 40% omethoate for control. In late April, apply 6-8 kg of carbofuran per mu or 0.5 kg of phoxim as poisoned soil to kill underground insects.
