Aloe is originally a tropical plant and is naturally afraid of cold. But it is also an easy-to-grow and easy-to-keep plant. Of course, to make aloe grow fast and propagate abundantly, you must carefully cultivate it according to its characteristics.
Aloe likes to grow in loose soil that drains well and does not easily become compacted. Ordinary soil can be mixed with some sand, gravel and ash residue, and it is even better if leaf mold and plant ash can be added. Soil with poor drainage and aeration will obstruct root respiration, causing root rot and death, but overly sandy soil often causes the loss of water and nutrients, resulting in poor growth of aloe.
Aloe is afraid of cold. If the temperature is below 0°C, it will suffer frost damage. Growth stops at around 5°C. The most suitable temperature for its growth is 15°C-35°C, and the humidity is 45%-85%. Using greenhouses for heat-preserving cultivation will solve the overwintering problem of large-scale aloe planting in northern regions.
Aloe, like all plants, needs water, but it is most afraid of waterlogging. In rainy and humid seasons or when drainage is poor, the leaves are very likely to shrivel and the branches and roots to rot, even leading to death.
Aloe grows fastest at around 15°C-35°C. From March to October in China, most regions meet this temperature range. During this period, management should be strengthened, with repeated loosening of the soil and weeding, which can promote soil aeration, accelerate the transformation of soil nutrients, promote well-developed roots, improve disease resistance, and achieve rapid and healthy growth.
