Fertilizers containing harmful ions: ammonium chloride and potassium chloride fertilizers contain large amounts of harmful chloride ions. After being applied to the soil, they produce water-soluble compounds that burn seeds and seedlings; fertilizers such as ammonium nitrate and potassium nitrate contain nitrate ions, which seriously affect seed germination, so they are unsuitable as seed fertilizers.

Fertilizers with toxic effects: urea contains about 2% biuret, which has a toxic effect on seeds and seedlings. In addition, urea molecules with high nitrogen content can also penetrate into the protein molecular structure of seeds and cause protein denaturation, producing toxic effects on seeds and young roots.

Fertilizers containing volatile and corrosive substances: ammonium bicarbonate, ammonia water, and others have strong volatility and easily burn seeds and seedlings. Ordinary superphosphate contains more than 5% free sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid, which can harm seed germination and seedling growth, so it is generally unsuitable as a seed fertilizer.
