Phosphorus fertilizer used in drip irrigation systems must be water-soluble. Traditionally used phosphorus fertilizers, such as superphosphate, have monocalcium phosphate as their main water-soluble component, but they also contain other insoluble impurities, so they are not suitable for drip irrigation systems.
Monoammonium phosphate, diammonium phosphate, monopotassium phosphate and phosphoric acid are all completely soluble and are excellent sources of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. However, pure monopotassium phosphate is very expensive and is not affordable for ordinary farmers. Although phosphoric acid has a high phosphorus content and good solubility, it is strongly corrosive and has low safety, accidents are likely during handling, and management requirements are high, so it has not been promoted for use in our country. Industrial-grade monoammonium phosphate and diammonium phosphate have good water solubility and very few impurities, and can be used for fertilization in drip irrigation systems.
