During the grape growing season, potassium fertilizer is mainly applied as a foliar spray, because it has many advantages such as rapid absorption, good fertilizer efficiency, and timely supply. Foliar potassium spraying can be carried out together with pest and disease control, which saves labor.
Grapes are a potassium-loving fruit tree; under potassium-deficient conditions, applying potassium gives higher yield and higher sugar content than not applying it, and also better coloring, with single fruit weight increasing noticeably, while the main grape diseases (anthracnose, black pox, etc.) are significantly suppressed.
Choosing the right type of potassium fertilizer: Practice has proven that for foliar spraying of potassium fertilizer on grapes, quick-acting potassium fertilizers such as potassium dihydrogen phosphate, potassium sulfate, and high-quality wood ash extract should be selected.
Determining the application period: Foliar potassium spraying on grapes is mainly carried out during the berry swelling stage and the berry coloring and ripening stage. For plants with vigorous growth, it can also be sprayed after flower drop when the young fruit begins to grow. While spraying potassium fertilizer, nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers should also be applied together to ensure that the potassium fertilizer properly exerts its fertilizer effect.
Choosing the spraying time: Foliar spraying of potassium fertilizer should preferably be done on cloudy days or on sunny days before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m.; it should not be sprayed during the high-temperature period at noon.
Pay attention to spraying technique: When spraying potassium fertilizer on grape leaves, both the front and back sides of the leaves should be sprayed evenly.
Other ways to apply potassium: After harvesting the fruit, apply an appropriate amount of potassium fertilizer together with the autumn base fertilizer.
