Coated compound fertilizer is a plant nutrient complex formed by coating one or several plant nutrients with another plant nutrient. Its principle is similar to making "tangyuan": there is filling (core), there is skin, wrapped layer by layer, so that fertilizer coats fertilizer and multiple fertilizers are integrated into one.
Coated compound fertilizer differs from ordinary compound fertilizer in five aspects. First, the granulation process is different. Ordinary compound fertilizer is made by mixing and granulating several fertilizers, or directly blending them (such as BB fertilizer). Coated compound fertilizer is made by coating fertilizer with fertilizer, layer by layer. Second, after being applied to the soil, the dissolution and release rates are different. Ordinary compound fertilizer dissolves quickly and releases quickly, while coated compound fertilizer dissolves out slowly and releases slowly. Third, the fertilizer utilization rate is different. Ordinary compound fertilizer releases quickly, has a short fertilizer effect, and its fertilizer utilization rate is generally 30% to 40%. Coated compound fertilizer releases slowly, has a long fertilizer effect, and its fertilizer utilization rate is generally 50% to 70%. This is 20 to 30 percentage points higher than the former. Fourth, the ability to supply fertilizer to crops is different. Ordinary compound fertilizer has a short fertilizer effect, and multiple topdressings are required to meet the nutrient needs of plant growth and development. Coated compound fertilizer has a lasting fertilizer effect; a single full basal application can basically meet the nutrient needs of crop growth and development. Fifth, the residues are different. Ordinary compound fertilizer is fully soluble or basically fully soluble, with few residues and little residual effect. Coated compound fertilizer dissolves out its inner core and leaves empty shells behind.
