In rice production, scientific and rational application of potassium fertilizer plays an important role in cultivating strong seedlings, improving resistance to disease, insects and lodging, increasing the seed-setting rate, and achieving high and stable yields. According to monitoring, for every 500 kg of rice grain produced, about 15 kg of potassium chloride is needed. The key steps in potassium fertilizer application for rice are introduced as follows:
1. Apply potassium fertilizer appropriately at the seedling stage, as a basal fertilizer for seedlings.
2. Apply potassium fertilizer selectively at the tillering stage.
3. Apply potassium fertilizer judiciously at the young panicle differentiation stage. At the young panicle differentiation stage, potassium fertilizer should be applied according to the early growth of the rice.
4. Apply supplementary potassium fertilizer at the booting, milk-ripe and yellow-ripe stages.
