How to improve pig disease resistance: strengthen management and prevent epidemics

Pig farming

Entering spring, pigs grow slowly and their disease resistance decreases, so feeding management must be strengthened. The key to raising pigs in spring is to improve the pigs' disease resistance. The specific techniques are as follows:

    I. Increase the temperature of the pig house

    1. If it is an open-style pig house, plastic film must be used as a cover, preferably double-layer plastic film. This method is suitable for fattening pig houses and non-lactating sow houses.

    2. If it is a sealed pig-raising facility, boiler-type heating can be used.

    3. If heating is provided, electric heaters can be added. This method is suitable for lactating sow houses.

II. Increase the energy level of the feed

Adjust the feeding method: feed dry feed and provide clean warm water for drinking. If wet feed is used, it must be mixed with clean warm water so that a certain feed temperature can be maintained, and the trough must be cleaned after each feeding. Prevent feed from becoming moldy, and note to add a mold-removing agent.

III. Enhance air circulation in the pig house

Because the weather is cold, the pig house remains relatively closed for a long time, the air cannot be replaced in time, and it is easy for toxic and harmful gases such as ammonia and hydrogen sulfide to seriously exceed the standard. Therefore, ventilation windows should be opened regularly to exchange air and remove toxic and harmful gases.

IV. Do a good job of cleaning and hygiene, and do a good job of disinfection.

    1. The pig house should be disinfected frequently. Disinfectants can be iodine preparations, chlorine preparations and other high-efficiency disinfectants. 20% quicklime milk or 2% caustic soda hot water can also be used for spraying disinfection (caustic soda must not be used for disinfection while animals are present).

    2. Use conventional disinfectant in the pens once a week, and this can be adjusted appropriately according to the animal epidemic situation.

    3. Wash and disinfect feeding troughs and utensils once every 3 days.

    4. Disinfection pools or disinfection mats should be set up at the main gate and at the entrances and exits for people and animals, and they should be replaced regularly.

    5. Strict disinfection measures must be taken for outside personnel and vehicles entering and leaving.

    V. Do a good job of disease prevention and control

In pig farming, immunization must be done well to prevent the occurrence of epidemics. Focus on the prevention of diseases such as wind-cold common cold, gastroenteritis, swine fever, highly pathogenic porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome, and foot-and-mouth disease.
