Pigs are prone to diseases when temperatures drop in winter; three major measures for prevention and control

Pig farming

Winter arrived in 2014, and temperatures are currently low, which easily triggers stress responses in pigs, lowering their resistance and inducing a variety of diseases. Pig farms should carry out timely prevention and control according to various pig disease situations.

First, do a good job of preventing respiratory and digestive tract diseases. Winter easily induces respiratory and digestive tract diseases such as swine influenza, enzootic pneumonia, and transmissible gastroenteritis. It is recommended to carry out immunization injections of important vaccines such as influenza, enzootic pneumonia, porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (blue ear disease), and the combined vaccine for epidemic diarrhea and transmissible gastroenteritis, use medication to control infections such as mycoplasma and Haemophilus parasuis, and find ways to control immunosuppressive diseases such as porcine circovirus disease.

Second, pay attention to keeping warm. If the pig house has not taken good warmth measures, get the work done properly right away. If warmth measures are already in place, carefully check whether the water pipes in the pig house are leaking and whether there are places where drafty wind can get in. Strengthen warmth and pay attention to ventilation to prevent harmful gases from irritating the pigs' respiratory tract. It is recommended to focus on checking the insulation of the pig house, promptly repair damaged pens, and cover them with plastic film. The floor should be dry, and the lighting area of the pig house should be increased.

Third, sell at the right time. At present, the average price of pigs in Qujing City is about 13.5-14 yuan per kg, and it has remained stable. Although the increase has been fairly obvious recently, the slight decline some days ago still leaves pig farmers who are full of expectations for the future market feeling uncertain, and they are reluctant to sell, with low enthusiasm for restocking. Pig farms should pay attention to details, improve the feed utilization rate of pigs, and save costs. It is recommended to sell at the right time to improve economic benefits.
