Autumn and winter are the peak season for livestock and poultry feeding, the golden period for growth, and also the busy season for livestock and poultry meat consumption. Paying attention to the management of livestock and poultry in autumn and winter and fully improving production performance can yield greater economic benefits. To this end, the following points should be done well:
First, do a good job of livestock and poultry disease prevention and control. Livestock and poultry breeding must always adhere to the principle of “prevention first, prevention is more important than treatment” and carry out immunization and medication-based prevention for various diseases so that livestock and poultry improve their immunity. According to the characteristics of livestock and poultry disease outbreaks in autumn and winter, livestock and poultry should be given immunization injections so as to improve the body's immunity as early as possible, and livestock and poultry must be injected with vaccines of the required quality and quantity.
Second, do a good job of cold protection and warmth keeping. Strong cold air attacks often occur in winter, and livestock and poultry are prone to catching colds or developing other diseases. Livestock and poultry sheds must be able to keep out severe cold, and in winter the sheds should be repaired frequently to ensure that the roof does not leak rain, the four walls have no wind holes, and the ground is covered with straw and other cold protection and warmth keeping measures. At the same time, do a good job of ventilation and air exchange to reduce the occurrence of respiratory diseases in livestock and poultry.
Third, feed carefully. When the weather is cold, the feed formula should be adjusted promptly, reducing protein feed and switching to high-energy feed, and oils, vitamins and minerals can be added to improve the cold resistance of livestock and poultry. Herbivorous animals should be dewormed promptly, supplemented with concentrate feed at the right time, kept in good body condition, and marketed on schedule. Persist in letting livestock and poultry eat dry feed and not drink cold water, so as to avoid catching cold and prevent colds.
