How to design a manure storage site for livestock and poultry farms to protect the environment

Sheep farming
As the country places increasing importance on the environment, the problem of manure treatment on farms has gradually become a bottleneck restricting the development of the livestock industry. Manure storage sites are simple to build and require relatively low investment, making them especially suitable for small and medium-sized farms that have nearby farmland to absorb the manure.
The design process for a manure storage site should mainly pay attention to the following aspects:
1. Location of the manure storage site
The manure storage site of a farm should be located downwind or crosswind of the entire farm area, and at a certain distance from the production area, to avoid causing pollution to the farm area.
2. Volume calculation for the manure storage site
The volume of the manure storage site can generally be designed according to the provisions in the document "Notice on Issuing the 'Twelfth Five-Year' Main Pollutant Total Emission Reduction Accounting Rules" issued by the Ministry of Environmental Protection, namely: under normal circumstances, the manure storage site volume required for every 10 pigs (slaughtered) is about 1 m3; the manure storage site volume required for every 1 head of cattle (slaughtered) or every 2 dairy cows (kept) is about 1 m3; the manure storage site volume required for every 2000 broilers (slaughtered) or every 500 laying hens (kept) is about 1 m3.
3. Rainproof and seepage-proof design
The manure storage site should have rainproof and seepage-proof measures. The rainproof facilities mainly require that the manure storage site have a roof or rainproof canopy to prevent rain and snow from entering; at the same time, there should be drainage ditches around the manure storage site to prevent rainwater from entering when rainfall is excessive. Seepage prevention means preventing manure liquid from leaking downward and polluting groundwater; the main measures taken are building brick walls around the manure storage site and using cement hardening for the ground.
4. Road design for the manure storage site
The width of the road leading to the manure storage site can be designed according to the width of the farm's manure transport vehicles. A manure exit door should be designed near the manure storage site to facilitate transporting manure off the farm.
