For high-profit pig farming, pay attention to four key three-day periods

High-profit pig farming requires attention to four key "three-day" periods in the pig-raising process

There are many key three-day periods in pig farming, such as the three days after mating, the three days after farrowing, the three days after weaning, and the three days after group transfer. During these key three-day periods, strengthening feeding management can improve the production efficiency of pig farming.

Pigs

    1. Three days after mating. The three days after mating are a critical period for fertilization of the eggs in the sow's body and cleavage of the fertilized eggs. If metabolism is too vigorous at this time, some fertilized eggs will die, thereby reducing the litter size. Therefore, within three days after mating, the sow must absolutely not be fed too much concentrated feed. The daily feed amount should preferably be 1.5-1.8 kg, and must not exceed 2 kg at most.

    2. Three days after farrowing. The three days after farrowing are crucial for the feeding and management of newborn piglets. This is because many injury and death incidents in pig farming, such as freezing to death, being crushed to death, and dying of disease, occur during this stage. Therefore, the following work should be done well in the three days after farrowing: (1) Proper assistance during farrowing and keeping warm. (2) Ensure piglets promptly receive colostrum to enhance disease resistance. (3) Fix the teat order. (4) Supplement iron and selenium promptly to prevent selenium and iron deficiency. (5) Restore the sow's body condition, prevent postpartum infection, and strengthen management so the sow smoothly gets through the period of physical weakness.

    3. Three days after weaning. These three days are the period when piglets suffer the most severe stress: food changes from liquid to solid, they leave the care of the sow, the sow is driven away and the barn temperature drops, and the supply of maternal antibodies stops. The key to smooth weaning of piglets lies in reducing stress. An effective auxiliary measure to prevent secondary infection in piglets is drug prevention, while the guarantee of successful weaning is comfortable environmental conditions and high-quality palatable feed.

     4. Three days after group transfer. The three-point positioning of piglets' eating, defecating, and sleeping must be completed within these three days. To ensure that piglets can be transferred smoothly, the following work should be done well: (1) Make the temperature of the transfer environment as close as possible to the temperature of the new environment to reduce stress. (2) First feed the feed used before group transfer for a period, and after all conditions of the pig herd have stabilized, gradually switch to finishing-period feed. (3) Strengthen drug prevention to prevent pathogens from invading the piglets. (4) Pay attention to observation and promptly handle emergencies involving the piglets. After mixing groups, piglets often fight, and for piglet breeds with relatively strong stress reactions, close attention must be paid during group transfer to prevent problems.
