How should nitrogen fertilizer be applied to fruit crops? An introduction is given

The sweetness of fruit is determined by the amount of sugar in its cells, and the accumulation of sugar is closely related to nitrogen fertilizer. Therefore, it is said that the sweetness of fruit is related to nitrogen fertilizer.

Within 28 days from the end of flowering of the fruit tree to after the end of flowering, the cells of the young fruit are in a state of division, and the cells are filled with cytoplasm whose main component is protein. After that, cell division stops, and the cells begin to rapidly absorb water and expand, with the cell walls extending outward. At this time, the cytoplasm gradually adheres to the surroundings of the cell membrane, and a large vacuole forms in the center, containing vacuolar fluid, which is the main site where the fruit stores starch, organic acids and other substances. When the fruit is in the early stage of ripening, the vacuole is almost filled with starch, which is gradually decomposed into fructose, glucose and sucrose, thereby causing the sweetness of the fruit to increase sharply.

So, will fruit be sweet if more nitrogen fertilizer is applied? Not necessarily. If too much nitrogen fertilizer is applied, although it is beneficial to the formation of protein, it will increase the cytoplasm in the cells, causing a delay in the mononuclear marginalization stage of the cytoplasm and a corresponding decrease in vacuole volume, directly hindering the storage of starch. At the same time, applying too much nitrogen fertilizer will make the new shoots of the fruit tree grow vigorously, consuming a large amount of the sugars produced by the leaves in growth, thereby reducing their transport to the fruit, and the sweetness of the fruit will decrease.

Therefore, improving the quality of fruit, especially improving the sweetness quality of fruit, is not a case of the more the better as people believe; the most important thing is to pay attention to moderation.
