Four points to note for raising goslings well in summer, the golden season for raising goslings

Geese are herbivorous poultry, characterized by fast growth, strong disease resistance and low consumption of concentrated feed. Spring and summer are the golden seasons for raising goslings, and four points should be noted during the rearing process.

Goslings

   (1) Temperature changes.Newly hatched geese have sparse down and poor ability to regulate their own body temperature, so attention should be paid to keeping them warm and preventing heatstroke. Generally, goslings aged 1-5 days require a house temperature of 26-30°C; afterward, the house temperature should be lowered by 1-2°C every 7 days, and the temperature reduction should be reasonably controlled by the breeder according to weather changes. In summer, goslings should not be grazed at noon to prevent heatstroke. At noon, let the geese rest in a shady place, and add heat-stress-resistant additives such as minerals and various vitamins to their drinking water.

   (2) Feed formulation.Because newly hatched goslings have incomplete gastrointestinal digestion and absorption functions, they cannot be fed green vegetables alone; they should be fed together with cooked rice, broken rice or compound feed. As the goslings grow older, the proportion of green feed in the daily ration can gradually increase to 9%, and the proportion of concentrated feed can gradually decrease to 10%.

   (3) Feeding management. For goslings over 10 days old, choose a sunny noon with suitable temperature and no wind; after feeding them well, slowly drive the goslings to nearby grassland for activity, and after 1 hour drive them to a pond to release into the water. The time must not be long; a few minutes is enough. Then drive the geese ashore, let them preen their feathers, and after the down is dry, drive them back to the goose house. To prevent some weak geese from catching cold and getting sick, gentamicin or Junshaxing, etc. can be added to the goslings' drinking water. The time for goslings to graze and enter water can be correspondingly extended as their age increases; goslings over 30 days old can graze all day.

   (4) Health care and prevention. The feed must be fresh, and moldy feed must not be fed; clean the site frequently, change the bedding straw often, strengthen disinfection of the goose house, and keep it clean and dry; the feed trough and waterer must be washed every day and disinfected regularly, and feed additives such as antibiotics should be added to the feed in a targeted manner. In addition, do a good job of vaccinating the goslings.
