How to Prevent and Treat Pig Teeth Grinding When It Affects the Pig's Rest

Pig farmers sometimes notice that their pigs grind their teeth at night and have white foam around their mouths. Pig teeth grinding is a pathological phenomenon, an unconscious empty-mouth chewing activity produced after the pig's brain receives some kind of stimulation. It often occurs in feeder pigs, sows, and piglets, and is rarely seen in fattening pigs. It mostly occurs at night, affects the pig's rest, and is harmful to the pig's growth and development. The editor now presents the causes and prevention and treatment measures of pig teeth grinding disease for reference.

Pig

    1. Single feed, malnutrition. When feeding pigs concentrated feed, it should be paired with green and roughage, and an appropriate amount of minerals and trace elements should be added. For example, adding 1% to 2% mineral feed to the daily ration, such as bone meal, calcium hydrogen phosphate, eggshell powder, etc., and adding 0.25% to 0.5% salt, etc., can prevent pig teeth grinding.

    2. Indigestion.Such pigs need to have their stomach strengthened and appetite stimulated. For pigs weighing more than 10 kg, use 10 tablets of rhubarb and baking soda tablets with a specification of 0.3 g, grind them into powder and mix with feed for feeding, 2 times a day, for 3 consecutive days, to strengthen the stomach. If at the same time 50 g each of hawthorn, malt, and medicated leaven (amount for 1 dose) are decocted into juice and mixed with feed for feeding, 2 times a day, for 5 consecutive days, it also helps digest food.

    3. Parasites in the body.An intramuscular injection of levamisole hydrochloride injection can be given once, 6 mg per kg of pig weight, to expel parasites.

    4. Vitamin deficiency. For teeth grinding caused by a deficiency of vitamins (especially vitamin D) in the body, inject 0.1 ml of vitamin AD injection intramuscularly per kg of pig body weight, and feed the pig compound vitamin B, 2 times a day, 10 tablets each time, for 8 consecutive days.
