Blind harvesting of freshwater fish in autumn can easily cause pond turnover and fish deaths

Blind fishing causes fish deaths; when harvesting freshwater fish in autumn, beware of pond turnover

After entering autumn, most pond fish have reached marketable size, and the fish carrying capacity of the pond tends to be saturated. To reduce the fish carrying load of the pond water, fish should be harvested and brought to market gradually according to market conditions. But blind fishing can cause fish deaths. Therefore, fishing techniques must be mastered. Do four things well:

Fishing

    1. One day before harvesting, stop feeding and remove leftover residue and debris

After fish eat their fill, their oxygen consumption increases. During harvesting, they are startled, jump, and dart about, which can easily cause death. Therefore, one day before harvesting, stop feeding and remove residue, leftover bait, and debris.

    2. Harvest at the right time, both safe and fresh

It is best to harvest fish on a sunny morning when the water temperature is low, dissolved oxygen is high, and transparency is great. This has little impact on the fish, and the fish can be brought to market in time, fresh and at a high price.

    3. On muggy evenings, fishing is prohibited when fish gasp at the surface

Fishing on a muggy evening when fish are gasping at the surface will cause severe oxygen deficiency in the fish and lead to death. Therefore, seining is strictly prohibited, and aeration equipment should be turned on in time.

    4. After harvesting, promptly add fresh water or turn on the aerator

After harvesting, because fish activity intensifies and the mud at the bottom of the pond is stirred up, the organic matter at the bottom of the pond oxidizes and decomposes faster, causing oxygen consumption to increase and easily leading to pond turnover and fish deaths. For this reason, after harvesting, fresh water must be promptly added to the pond or the aerator must be turned on, with the machine running for about 2 hours; quicklime can also be splashed over the whole pond to disinfect and sterilize and to improve and regulate water quality.
