Frequent cold air reduces duck egg production; how to improve the laying rate of ducks in winter

Laying ducks

   1. Pay attention to cold protection and keeping warm.Cold air is frequent in winter, and laying ducks find it hard to adapt, which leads to reduced egg production. Therefore, cold protection and warmth measures for laying ducks must be done well, such as closing the doors and windows of the duck house to prevent cold wind from invading; spreading bedding straw so that the ducks' abdomens do not get cold when they roost; supplementing light to promote the secretion of gonadotropins by the duck's pituitary gland and thus promote follicle maturation and ovulation; appropriately increasing the stocking density per unit area, using the body heat of the laying ducks to raise the house temperature, so that the temperature in the duck house stays above 5°C day and night.

    2. Raise feed standards. The feed should meet the various nutritional needs of laying ducks, with special attention to energy and protein content. The outside temperature in winter is low, and the energy requirement for maintenance in laying ducks increases compared with other seasons. Therefore, in the daily ration of laying ducks, the energy and protein content should be increased, thereby promoting sustained high egg production in laying ducks.

    3. Supplement green feed.Green feed is rich in protein, vitamins and chlorophyll, and especially contains certain special nutritional factors that can activate the reproductive function of laying ducks. Feeding laying ducks an appropriate amount of green feed every day can not only increase their laying rate, but also improve feed utilization.

    4. Release them at the right time.Because winter is cold, laying ducks should be released late and shut in early. When severe frost and freezing occur, wait until the sun comes out and the frost and fog have been dispelled before releasing the laying ducks from the house. This is because laying ducks that inhale frost and fog are prone to illness, and when their webbed feet step on frost, the webs can chap and bleed. Therefore, the release of laying ducks must be managed well according to the weather, time and frequency.

    5. Pay attention to the hygiene of the duck house.Doing a good job of duck house hygiene is the foundation for ensuring the health of laying ducks and increasing egg production. Therefore, the bedding straw in the duck house should be changed frequently, the equipment should be disinfected frequently, and when problems are found, they should be isolated and treated promptly.
