Concentrated breeding and lambing to improve returns: five-stage lamb-preservation feeding method for meat sheep

To improve the returns of sheep farmers and raise the survival rate of lambs, breeding must be concentrated and lambing must be concentrated. On this basis, a five-stage lamb-preservation feeding method for meat sheep is proposed.

Lamb

    1. Maternal energy reserve stage:90 days before lambing, the ewes should both graze to put on fat and be given green hay to promote fattening, ensuring the birth of robust lambs. This period coincides with the change in grass quality, so attention should be paid to weather changes, and pregnant ewes must be strictly prevented from eating frost-bitten grass, which can cause miscarriage. In supplementary feeding, pay attention to adding trace elements and vitamins. At the same time, let the ewes walk less, supply water frequently, and provide enough salt.

    2. Physical protection stage:50 days before lambing, mainly house feeding, with appropriate exercise outside the shed, and grass and feed given together. Observe changes in the ewes' udders and feed accordingly. During the perinatal period (10 days before lambing and 10 days after lambing), let the ewes exercise appropriately to avoid pre-lambing and post-lambing paralysis, and pay attention to changes in fetal position to prevent difficult lambing.

    3. Physical energy consumption stage:After lambing, the ewe's constitution declines sharply. While supplementing with concentrate, increase the amount of root tubers, succulent feed, vitamins, and calcium and phosphorus fed, to raise the milk fat percentage and promote lamb development.

    4. Transitional feeding stage:60 days before the lambs are weaned, carry out taming and feeding, mainly with grass, with a grass-to-feed ratio of 3:0.3, and add shredded carrots when feeding complete feed.

    5. Independent feeding stage:For ease of management, the lambs are graded and regrouped. For weaned lambs, prepare feed that is highly palatable, easy to digest and rich in nutrients. Tame the lambs so that they enter the growing stage with guaranteed quality and quantity.
