Local Food Safety Assessment System Established, Strengthening Accountability Governance and Knowledge Popularization

The General Office of the CPC Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council issued the “Regulations on the Food Safety Responsibility System for Local Party and Government Leading Cadres”, incorporating food safety work into the content of performance assessment for local Party and government leading cadres. Leading cadres who conceal, falsely report, or delay reporting food safety accidents will be held accountable. It is also necessary to start from the root; taking the first step is not bad either, and truly testing it is no small workload. It is good to persist in implementation. Afterward, the food safety index will certainly keep getting higher month by month.

The “Decision of the State Council on Strengthening Food Safety Work” released a few days ago plans to spend 5 years improving the food safety supervision mechanism, the food safety laws, regulations and standards system, and the inspection, testing and risk monitoring system, and for the first time incorporates “food safety” into the annual performance assessment content of local governments. The assessment results will also serve as an important basis for the comprehensive assessment and evaluation of local officials. Places where major food safety accidents occur will be removed from activities such as the selection of civilized cities and hygienic cities.
