Daffodils generally need several months of growing before they bloom. Some flower enthusiasts want to propagate them by hand after their daffodils' flowering period has passed. But since daffodils are a well-known bulbous flower, their propagation methods are rather special.

Daffodil (detailed introduction)

I. Offset bulb propagation

This is the most common and commonly used propagation method. The storage bulbs grow on both sides outside the bulb, connected to the mother bulb only at the base, and easily separate from the mother on their own. In autumn, separate them from the mother bulb and plant them separately; new bulbs are produced the following year.

II. Offset bud propagation

Offset buds are buds wrapped inside the bulb. Only when the bulb is being scooped out are they detached from the mother along with the excavated broken scales. Pick out the white buds and sow them on a seedbed in autumn; new bulbs are produced the following year.

III. Twin-scale propagation

A single bulb contains many offset buds, some clearly visible and some hidden. But the basic rule is one bud for every two scales. Using a basal plate with two scales as propagation material is called twin-scale propagation. The method is to first place the bulb at a low temperature of 4-10°C for 4-8 weeks, then at room temperature cut the basal plate into small pieces so that each piece has two scales, and cut off the upper end of the scales leaving 2 cm as propagation material. Then put vermiculite with 50% water content or sand with 6% water content into a plastic bag, place the propagation material in the bag, seal the bag opening, and keep it in a dark place at 20-28°C. After 2-3 months, small bulbs can grow, with a bulbing rate of 80-90%. This is a new method developed in recent years; it can be done in all four seasons, but April to September is best. The small bulbs produced have a high survival rate after transplanting, up to 80-100%.

IV. Tissue culture

Use MS medium, adding 30 grams of sucrose and 5 grams of activated charcoal per liter, use shoot tips as explants, or use a stem plate with twin scales measuring 5×10 mm as explants, pH 5-7; place into 20x100 mm glass tubes, with 10 ml of medium per tube. After sterilization, implant one explant per tube, then culture at 25°C. Small protrusions appear 10 days after inoculation, small bulbs form after 20 days, and after 1 month transfer to medium containing NAA 0.1/mg 1/2 MS. After 6-8 weeks there are leaves and roots; transplant into the field and survival can be 100%. Using shoot tips as explants also has a virus-eliminating effect.

Daffodil growing methods and precautions

Daffodils are a common green plant for beautifying the home. Their leaves are dark green, and paired with white petals they look especially beautiful. They can both beautify the environment and purify the air, but how should daffodils be grown? I will write out all the daffodil growing methods and precautions to share with everyone.

Daffodil growing methods

1. Selecting bulbs

Daffodils are usually grown from bulbs, and selection is very important. When selecting bulbs, be sure to choose bulbs that are large, flat in shape and hard in texture; it is best if the membrane in the middle is stretched tight and the skin color is glossy. Such bulbs are easy to keep alive.

2. Growing environment

When growing daffodils normally, the growing environment is very important. The daffodil is an ornamental plant that likes warmth and sunlight, and it likes relatively high air humidity. Its cold tolerance is relatively poor, and it is afraid of heat. When growing daffodils at home normally, it is best to place them on a balcony. In hot summer weather, shade them and spray water on the leaves in time; the moisture increases air humidity. In winter, the daffodils should be moved to a warm indoor area.

Precautions for growing daffodils

1. When growing daffodils, pay attention to pests and diseases

When growing daffodils normally, be sure to pay attention to the occurrence of pests and diseases. Leaf blight, aspergillus disease and penicillium disease are all common daffodil diseases. Once these diseases occur, they directly affect the daffodil's flowering period, and in severe cases can even cause the daffodil to die.

2. When growing daffodils, pay attention to temperature regulation

Most daffodil bulbs can bloom on schedule after 45 to 50 days of growing, but during growing you must pay attention to temperature regulation, letting them receive more than six hours of light each day, and the temperature must be kept between 10 and 15 degrees. Insufficient light or poor temperature regulation will affect the daffodil's flowering time.

Daffodil growing methods and precautions

Daffodils have a cultivation history of more than a thousand years, and the fragrant daffodil has very good ornamental value. Today let us look at the daffodil growing methods and precautions.

Daffodil growing methods and precautions

I. Daffodil growing methods——cultivation

Daffodils are suitable for growing in August and September. Before planting, make sure to loosen the soil. Soft soil helps improve fertility and has better air permeability, which is more beneficial for the later growing of daffodils. Better soil air permeability can also be more conducive to the absorption of nutrients and nourishment.

II. Daffodil growing methods——fertilizing

What daffodils need is organic fertilizer; using some calcium phosphate as fertilizer is more suitable. For daffodils grown as annuals, the amount of fertilizer can be reduced to 10 kg per mu. When fertilizing, it should be even so that the soil can absorb nutrients evenly. Keep the bottom of the ditch smooth per mu so that water can flow smoothly.

III. Daffodil growing methods——irrigation

Daffodils need water to be kept flowing in the ditch at all times. The size of the water flow should be related to the growth stage and season. Northern regions need more water, while southwestern regions need less. In cold weather, the amount of water can be increased, and in warm weather the amount of water should be reduced. The amount of water should be changed whether it is rainy or sunny.

IV. Daffodil growing methods——topdressing

Daffodils like fertilizer. Some fertilizer can be used as soon as they just sprout. During the subsequent growth process, fertilize about once every seven days.
