Preventing orchid root disease

Orchidroots grow inside the substrate. Not only is it impossible for people to directly observe whether they are diseased, but it is also inadvisable to frequently lift the plants out to inspect them. By the time symptoms appear on the leaves, the disease is already incurable, and treatment is usually difficult. Therefore, preventive work must be done well to guard against orchid root disease before it occurs. (1) Plant carefully ① Thoroughly remove diseased spots and lesions from the seedlings, and disinfect them strictly. ② Choose tall, multi-holed orchid pots for planting. ③ The growing substrate should be somewhat coarse and must be disinfected. ④ Potting operations must follow proper standards. (2) Manage meticulously ① Water and fertilize at the right time and in the right amount, and try hard to avoid waterlogging damage, drought damage and fertilizer burn. ② Keep warm in time to prevent freezing, and cool down in time to retain moisture, creating environmental conditions with all-around ventilation and ample scattered light at all times. ③ Strengthen nutrition and ensure the timely and sufficient supply of phosphorus, calcium, chlorine, molybdenum, boron and other elements needed by orchid roots, so as to promote robust root growth. If chlorine, molybdenum and boron are lacking, the orchid roots' transport function for nutrients and water will decline, the growing points of roots and buds will die, and flower buds will also be difficult to open; if phosphorus and calcium are lacking, root growth will be hindered, and the function of absorbing water and nutrients will also decline. Therefore, in addition to foliar spraying of trace elements, the orchid roots should also be watered once each season with a compound trace element solution or a fertilizer liquid containing the above elements. The concentration used is generally 0.02%-0.05%. (3) Enhance immunity After spring warms up, choose aspirin 3000 times dilution, which can induce the production of resistance proteins and can block, kill or inhibit the invasion and spread of pathogenic microorganisms, and spray the orchid plants once. Half a month later, water once with Huayi brand Lanjun Wang 500 times dilution to improve the immunity of orchid roots. (4) Eliminate insects and prevent disease ① Exterminate cockroaches, ants and other insects that directly harm orchid roots and spread pathogens. ② Orchid plants must be treated with pesticides by the watering method. Usually, water once each in spring, summer and autumn. Commonly used fungicides for root watering include 800-1000 times dilutions of fosetyl-Al and carbendazim, 600-800 times dilutions of tuijunte, dexon, copper hydroxide, Lubang 98 and kameitong, and 3000 times dilutions of penicillin, streptomycin, chloramphenicol, etc. (Xu Dongsheng)
