What are the treatment methods for Odontoglossum ringspot virus disease?
Treatment of Odontoglossum ringspot virus disease
Odontoglossum ringspot virus disease, although judged to be an incurable orchid disease, is not absolutely so. In fact, orchidorchidshorticulturists and growers everywhere have made certain progress in treating virus-infected orchids. The author also conducted a treatment experiment on a cluster of virus-infected orchid seedlings. After 3 years, the old plant had withered and died, and none of the 3 new shoots that sprouted showed symptoms of the virus disease. Although without tissue section testing it cannot be definitively said to be cured, the short-term surface control can be said to have been successful. The treatment methods are:
(1) Grow strong plants Create suitable ecological conditions to cultivate infected orchid plants, and do not place them in a glass greenhouse for growing. Adjust light, temperature and humidity well according toorchidhabits, provide plenty of natural ventilation, and supply fertilizer and spray pesticide appropriately, so as to grow strong plants and improve resistance.
(2) Apply medication to suppress and eliminate the virus Medication should be applied both by watering and by spraying, spraying to treat the above-ground parts and watering to treat the below-ground parts, implementing all-round treatment. Spray every 7 days, water with medication every 10-15 days, and after 10-15 consecutive times, change to once every half month or once a month, persisting for more than 1 year to consolidate the curative effect.
The medications selected for treatment are: (1) For finished pesticides, use 500 times dilution of Bingdu Bike as the effective medicine, add 250 times dilution of edible rice vinegar with extremely strong penetration function, to guide the medicine directly to the diseased part and enhance the medicinal effect. Also take nutrients rich in amino acids and various other components to strengthen the plant's vital energy and enhance the orchid plant's ability to eliminate pathogens. (2) Apply traditional Chinese medicines with antiviral function for clearing heat and detoxifying. Such as Banlangen (Isatis root), Daqingye (Isatis leaf), Jinyinhua (honeysuckle), Guanzhong (Dryopteris crassirhizoma), Huanglao, Beizi, Yijianxi (Andrographis paniculata), Qiyeyizhihua (Paris polyphylla), Banbianlian (Lobelia chinensis), Banzhilian (Scutellaria barbata) and Zihuadiding (Viola philippica), etc., are all preferred medicinal materials. You can choose any three to five herbs to combine into a formula, and use them alternately each month. First use the infusion, then use the decoction, and then spread the medicinal residue. The medicinal liquid is preferably 10-100 times dilution. (3) Spray once each season with 1000 times dilution of the antipyretic-analgesic aspirin, to induce the plant body to produce resistance protein, so as to suppress or kill the virus. Doing so has considerable synergistic effect.
(3) Strengthen vital energy and eliminate pathogens Diseased orchid plants consume too much and have no strength themselves to transport medicine to eliminate pathogens, so strengthening vital energy is indispensable. The main measures for strengthening vital energy are: (1) gradually increase the amount of light; (2) provide plenty of natural ventilation and bathe in dew more often; (3) fertilize normally, and every half year water once with compound trace element fertilizer or plant growth tonic, and every week or half month spray once with medium-concentration foliar fertilizer, such as Zhuwu Dongli 2003, Gaolida, Gaole, Aishi brand foliar fertilizer, etc.
If you can make unremitting efforts according to the above methods, you may achieve a short-term curative effect, and at least you will achieve the effect of controlling its spread. (Xu Dongsheng)
