What to Do When Orchid Leaf Tips Dry Up? Cause Analysis and Prevention Methods
Causes of Orchid Leaf Tip Drying and Prevention Measures
Potted plantsOrchidsOrchids often develop dry leaf tips, and even entire leaves wither. The main cause isorchidsanthracnose and round spot disease. This disease occurs in large numbers during the plum rain season or at the turn of summer and autumn when temperatures are high and rain is frequent. During the susceptible period, spray 50% carbendazim at 1000x dilution or 50% captan at 500x dilution, once every 10 days, for three or four consecutive sprays as prevention. Households can buy small-packaged sterilizing pesticides and use them according to the instructions.
OrchidsWhen orchids suffer frost damage or late frost damage, dry or discolored leaf tips can also easily form. Therefore, in areas where winter temperatures fall below 0°C, before winter begins, orchids should be moved indoors to a ventilated, sunny place for care. When moving them outdoors in spring, be careful to avoid late frost damage. Traditional experience: no wind in spring (do not move them outdoors too early in spring, to avoid damage from strong winds), no sun in summer (provide appropriate shade in summer to prevent scorching sun exposure), no dryness in autumn (water frequently in autumn to prevent drought), no wetness in winter (pot soil should not be too wet in winter, to prevent freezing and root rot). This is greatly beneficial for preventing orchid leaves from drying up.
For orchid leaves whose tips have already dried up, if the condition is not too serious, manual pruning can also be used. With scissors (preferably disinfected with alcohol), cut in a "pointed" shape about 10 mm below the dried part, and the pot can still remain full of green. If the above fungicides are sprayed after pruning, so much the better. (Xue Yong)
