How to treat stem rot? These findings are worth considering

Several findings on treating stem rot

This year, 3 pots of orchids have already caught this disease. (Yu Hudie, Jinsi Mawei, Qi Xiannv) From this, I found several issues to discuss together with fellow orchid growers. 1. The strength of the plant is fundamental: among the three pots, Yu Hudie was the weakest (2 imported-back seedlings), Jinsi Mawei had 3 strong seedlings, and Qi Xiannv had 2 strong seedlings. As a result, Yu Hudie is already gone (the prevention and treatment methods and environment were the same), possibly related to its own disease resistance. 2. Early detection is key: during this period I checked several times a day, and once I found the leaf base turning yellow, with the spread starting from the center leaf and moving upward, I took measures. 3. Treatment methods I explored personally: I did not repot, but cut off the diseased leaves from the stem, then changed its environment. The approach was: strictly control the temperature at a maximum of 23°C. Keep it on the dry side and grow it in shade, watering once a week. Only one third of the usual watering amount. Humidity at around 60%. I did not deliberately ventilate, (because I feel that too strong ventilation is not suitable for maintaining humidity) and I did not use any medication. After more than a month, I found that "Jinsi Mawei" had produced a new shoot, now already 2 cm tall. Very normal. "Qi Xiannv" had only one seedling, but it produced a flower bud (both with a stem from which diseased leaves had been cut). Through analysis, I reached the following personal view: after getting this disease, it should be kept on the dry side and grown in shade, and temperature and humidity should be balanced. If detected early, strong seedlings can be saved. (Author: Zhang Yijun)
