What are the care methods for weak dragon-root seedlings?
Weak dragon-root seedlings are extremely fragile and have high care requirements. If cultivated even slightly improperly, they will collapse. Because their pseudobulbs have not yet grown strong, once they collapse there is basically no way to bring them back. To successfully grow dragon-root seedlings and seed-grown seedlings, you must first have sufficient understanding of the plant characteristics of these weak young seedlings, so that you can adopt the best care methods and help them grow healthily.
Normal weak seedlings are small, with tiny pseudobulbs, extremely weak sprouting ability, poorly developed root systems, and very little vitality. When caring for them, you must pay attention to using the correct methods. Because their root systems are not well developed and their ability to absorb water and nutrients is poor, the first priority is to grow the roots well; only when the roots are strong will the seedlings be sturdy. To avoid root rot, the substrate should preferably be granular planting material. The size of the granular planting material should preferably be about the size of a soybean, because this size is moderate, breathable, and moisture-retaining; it can both prevent root rot and withstand too much watering. When planting, you can first use some sphagnum moss to wrap the dragon root. Then fill the prepared planting material into a small pot, with the planting material slightly lower than the top of the pseudobulb. After planting, water thoroughly with orchid root water and place it under the shade net of the orchid rack for shaded cultivation. Never let sunlight shine directly on the orchid leaves, and when watering, never pour water into the leaf center, to prevent heart rot and seedling collapse. In the first 2 months after planting, do not apply fertilizer. After 2 months, you may apply extremely dilute light fertilizer to help it grow.
