1. Repotting. Through years of observation and record-keeping, the vast majority of cases of disease occurred in plants that had been repotted that same year, because repotting weakens their resistance; even though everything was disinfected, fungi and bacteria get in everywhere. They enter through the wounds.

Repot as little as possible. I had several varieties that I was afraid would become extinct from disease, so I divided them when they had only 6-7 shoots, and in the end they did become extinct, while large clumps that were never divided never developed disease.

2. Withholding water. Many people say that withholding water can reduce disease, not realizing that orchids do not get sick when dry, but if the degree of water withholding is not judged accurately, the orchid roots shrivel, the vascular tissue is damaged, and when you water again the medium becomes saturated but conduction is poor, leading to hollow roots and tangled stems. Why do the stronger plants get damaged more easily? Because the stronger the shoot, the larger the leaves and the faster the evaporation; for the same period of water withholding, the roots of strong plants suffer more serious damage.

Do not withhold water; water when dry, and keep the potting medium moist. If you withhold water and the potting soil dries out, bacteria cannot easily grow, but neither can the orchid, and new shoots that do not develop into mature plants and form a growing point within a few months may die at any time.
