Why is triacontanol called the savior of orchids?
Triacontanol: the "savior" of orchids
Triacontanol is chemically known as 1-triacontanol, a new type of plant and animal growth regulator discovered by American scientist Professor Ries.
The main effects of triacontanol on plants are as follows: promoting plant growth; enhancing the activity of multiple enzymes and respiration intensity; strengthening photosynthesis and increasing water uptake; promoting the absorption of chlorine; improving disease resistance; promoting hydrolysis reactions within tissues; and promoting rooting of cuttings.
Triacontanol promotes growth in all plants and animals, and fororchidsit is no exception.
Orchidsduring planting and cultivation often grow poorly due to changes in their living environment. For orchidsorchidssurviving under poor conditions, if effective measures are not taken promptly, the orchids will "die prematurely." Triacontanol has a good effect on restoring vitality to orchids after transplanting. For dying orchids (such as those suffering from dehydration or root rot), timely use of triacontanol can achieve twice the result with half the effort.
Several of my Huizhou Mo orchids, because they had not been watered for a long time, had dried-out pots, and even soaking them in water could not save them. So I adopted the following remedy: wash off the soil, disinfect, and use hydroponics to fix the plant in the center of the bottle mouth (a wide-mouth bottle). In the clean water, use 1% triacontanol, and mix the rest with 0.5% potassium dihydrogen phosphate. Once a week, add nutrient solution and triacontanol (the nutrient solution should be dilute), and at the same time spray it on the leaves. After more than 1 month, the flower spike that I had originally given up on had already extended its scape and was entering the small bud stage. The dehydration phenomenon was alleviated. From below the stem, 2 small white roots also grew. Although the flowering period had passed, I could see the flowers about to bloom that had been saved from crisis.
When triacontanol is mixed with pesticides, fertilizers, and trace elements, it must be prepared and used immediately; the spraying environment temperature should be 15-35°C, and if it rains, reapply; when spraying, the potting soil must not be too wet, and spraying should be done in the morning and evening.
