Water Treatment Methods

Water used for watering flowers can generally be divided into river water, spring water, groundwater, tap water and rainwater. In today's industrialized environment, water sources are often polluted, and the water quality may contain oils and toxins, so it is best to carry out an additional water treatment procedure before using it with peace of mind. The water treatment method is to buy a large plastic barrel or build your own water storage tank, place it in a high spot, and install a drainage faucet on the lower side of it. Cover the outlet with a layer of palm fiber about ten cm thick and filter sand, then place charcoal at the bottom inside the barrel or tank to a height of about one fifth of the container, cover it on top with palm fiber or sponge, and above that place coarse sand and fine sand in order, reaching about sixty to seventy percent of the container's height (as shown in the figure). Then place another plastic barrel below, turn on the faucet above, and let the water flow into the barrel for use. This method was developed by the author through decades of experience, and it is both convenient and safe for water quality. In this way, water quality can be effectively treated to obtain clean, harmless water. The charcoal should be replaced about once every half year, and after the used charcoal has been dried out, it can still be used as fuel for a grill. (Bu Jinzhen)
