A Complete Guide to Pot Selection Techniques: How to Choose the Right Pot
Pot Selection Techniques
Thecultivationand management methods we introduce include those close to traditionalcultivationmethods, as well as contemporary soillesscultivationmethods, but the main discussion is still about cultivation and management using orchid pots and manual operation in the home (small flower garden):
Porcelain pots produced in Jingdezhen and Chaozhou, purple clay (zisha) pots produced in Yixing, and various pottery and clay tile pots made from local materials in various places can all be used as special orchid pots; the newly produced black plastic pots are also quite suitable. Based on many years of experience, we believe that the various specialorchidpurple clay pots produced in Yixing, Jiangsu, have mostly been improved, and attention is also paid to harmonious tones. Many shapes are very suitable and can be considered as the first choice of pot.
All kinds of cultivation containers require a fine, smooth, uniform, beautiful and elegant texture. Generally, a cylindrical shape is preferable. If it is a handicraft, it can have various types such as bamboo-like, polygonal and multi-sided styles, but whatever the variation, the flower pot should suit the needs of orchid root growth. For long cylindrical pots, the ratio of mouth diameter to height should be 1:1.3-1.5. In terms of aeration, the bottom hole should be large, and there should be wall holes for ventilation. When planning the arrangement, consideration should be given to whether to use a unified style so that the types and colors are coordinated and appear neat and uniform when placed; various forms of arrangement can also be considered to make it colorful and varied. This should be considered according to the conditions of the individual placement location and one's own aesthetic values; it is best to do some planning before purchasing. One point to note here is that flat-footed pots are easier to place than standing-foot pots. If a perforated flower pot stand is used, it is best to use flat-footed pots. Regarding color, if uniformity is not required, green flowers can use pots of various colors, white flowers and yellow flowers can use dark-colored pots, and red flowers should use white pots or yellow pots; using purple-black pots is not bright enough, and black flowers should appropriately use white pots. If it is commercial production-type planting, inexpensive clay pots are still preferable.
