Identification and Control Methods for Necrotic Ringspot Disease in Chinese Cymbidium
Necrotic Ringspot Disease in Chinese Cymbidium
Distribution: Worldwide.
Pathogen: Cymbidium ringspot virus (CyRV).
Hosts: Cattleya (Cattlop), Cymbidium (Cymbidium), Spathoglottis (Spathoglottis), etc.
Symptoms: Necrotic yellowed ringspots or necrotic mottling appear on young and old leaves; plants become weak and stunted, and both new and old shoots may die.
Control: Controlling viral diseases mainly relies on removing diseased plants, improving environmental hygiene, and disinfecting tools to prevent their spread. Currently, the internationally recognized
better disinfectant solutions are:
1. 2% formalin and % sodium hydroxide aqueous solution (cannot be used again once it turns green);
2. 164g anhydrous or 377g crystalline trisodium phosphate (Na3PO4) added to 1L (1000cc) of water. Can be used to disinfect tools, the environment, etc. (Chen Xinqi, Ji Zhanhe)
