This is the diamond-shaped mottling that appears in Tiegu Yinzhen (Iron Bone Silver Needle). In my view, this kind of mottling is an early symptom of virus infection. Its surface is smooth, and it does not necessarily pass on to the next generation. Another relatively major characteristic is that it often does not become sunken even after being grown for many generations. (Zheng Yuhui)
