Baylas discussion (Group 1, Part 2)

This is a pot ofCymbidium sinense'Fugui', photographed in February 1996; the entire pot of plants all died by early 1997. At the time, I was keen on collecting variegated-leaf orchids, and I heard that those with mountain-peak-shaped patterns were "treasures" and generally quite stable, so I spent nearly 2000 yuan to buy it from an orchid dealer surnamed Cheng in Zhangpu County, Fujian Province. Its symptoms were that after the shoots emerged they did not continue to grow, as if frozen, then the old back bulbs kept declining, and the new shoots later turned yellow and black, and in the end I had to throw away the pot together with the soil. Photo 2 is the whole pot from Photo 1of the flowera close-up of the pattern on the leftmost new leaf in the overall view. (Zheng Yuhui)
