What are the two commonly used plant growth regulators for Chinese orchids?
Two plant growth regulators used for Chinese orchids
(1) Cytokinins
Based on their constituent types, they are divided into three major categories: Purine Cytokinins, Urea Cytokinins and tRNA Cytokinins. Their physiological effects are: 1 promote cell division and cell enlargement, 2 promote meristematic division of undifferentiated tissues, induce the sprouting of dormant buds (lateral buds), * chlorophyll synthesis and chloroplast replication, prevent leaf aging and the flow of metabolic substances. At present, orchid enthusiasts treating orchid plants to induce dormant buds to sprout use a 3% concentration of cytokinin to promote lateral bud differentiation. 4 After use, lateral buds sprout, above-ground growth is good, the root system grows persistently, and the newly grown leaf buds can obtain nutrients from the old plant to maintain growth.
(2) Gibberellins (commonly known as GAs)
Due to improvements in purification techniques and advances in analytical techniques, there are currently 116 known Gibberellins (GAs). The GAs sold are divided into GA1, GA2, GA3 and GA4, and their effects are not all the same. Their main physiological effects are: 1 by promoting cell division and cell growth, they promote stem elongation; 2 break root dormancy, leaf growth and flowering; 3 promote the differentiation of flowers, leaves and buds; 4 promote and inhibit leaf differentiation and prevention, among other effects. At present, orchid enthusiasts treating orchid plants to increase their growth rate use a 2% solution or 3.1% powder of GA to promote stem and leaf elongation and shorten the growth period. However, different Chinese orchid varieties have different sensitivities to such agents, and improper concentrations often cause excessively long stems and leaves, changes in plant form or flower type variation.
Chinese orchidsCultivationThe ultimate goal is to increase yield, promote rapid growth, shorten the production period and achieve economic value. Chinese orchid varieties differ, and tissues in different parts of the plant have different sensitivities to growth hormones; meristematic tissues are more sensitive to growth hormones, while stems and old leaves are less responsive to growth hormones. Growth hormones are chemical substances that can stimulate orchid plant growth and development at extremely low concentrations. If gibberellins are used to promote orchid leaf elongation, shorten the growth period or break dormancy, the differences among Chinese orchid varieties and their different sensitive responses to gibberellins should first be considered, and the concentration must be adjusted according to the needs of the orchid plant when used, so as to avoid changes in plant form.
Generally, Chinese orchid plants of the thin-leaf type that are taller and have longer leaves require more plant growth hormones to stimulate growth, while dwarf Chinese orchid plants themselves contain fewer growth hormones and more growth inhibitors, making them more sensitive to growth hormones. I once used G, G, BA4 plus cytokinin, carefully researched and synthesized by the floriculture research institute of a famous university in Taiwan, China, to treat Chinese orchid plants, together with a good phospholipid synthase. In the Chengdu region of Sichuan, where high and low temperatures are relatively severe, based on experience mainly with Chun JianHui Lan, I found that it had very good effects on promoting lateral bud differentiation, root growth, growth rate and increase in leaf number. However, onChun Lan, Xia Lan and Chinese orchid plants, the same effects as above could also be observed after observation.
Among plant growth regulators, bud-forcing agents, although they can promote the sprouting ability of Chinese orchid plants, make them grow quickly, improve quality, increase yield and shorten the growth period, are after all not a magic pill. To successfully treat them and achieve the desired effect, one needs to understand the physiological and biochemical characteristics of Chinese orchids, grasp the correct treatment "method", "site", "timing", "technique", "application skills", "water quality" and "correct concentration", and combine this with many years of practical experience and knowledge of the agent's characteristics. Only in this way can the proper efficacy of the bud-forcing agent be brought into play, so as to achieve the purpose of regulating Chinese orchid growth and promoting Chinese orchid sprouting.
