How to prepare potting medium? Detailed preparation methods shared
Preparation of potting medium
YesOrchidsThe requirements for potting medium are good drainage, good aeration, and the ability to maintain appropriate moisture. At present, in the orchidcultivationworld, the following are commonly used for premium orchids: pond-bank mud, vermiculite granules, small crushed stones, small pebbles, baked clay granules, crushed brick granules, treated clay (xiantu), peat soil granules, tree-fern fiber, sphagnum moss, etc. Before use, soak the materials in clean water for half an hour, then remove and drain them for later use. If several kinds of potting medium are mixed and used together, the effect will be better. The following formulas can be used:
(1) Pond-bank mud (or vermiculite or baked clay granules) 90% + tree-fern fiber 10%.
(2) Treated clay (xiantu) 70% + small pebbles or small crushed stones 30%.
(3) Crushed brick granules (0.5-1 cm in diameter) 80% + tree-fern fiber 20%.
If tree-fern fiber and the like are unavailable, the following potting media can also be used:
(1) Pond-mud granules.
(2) River sand 70% + sphagnum moss 30%.
(3) Leaf mold 40% + river sand 40% + sawdust or fine wood shavings 20%.
(4) Garden soil or thoroughly burned honeycomb coal cinders 30% + rice husks (after fermentation and disinfection treatment) 20% + river sand 50%.
