Research on Fertilization Techniques for Phalaenopsis

Tissue-cultured Phalaenopsis seedlings grow relatively slowly, and it takes more than 1.5 years from deflasked seedlings to flowering. Choosing an appropriate type of fertilizer is very important for accelerating their growth and development and flowering. 1) Effects of different fertilization treatments on leaf growth of Phalaenopsis. Among the several fertilizers and their mixed fertilization treatments we selected, the most ideal fertilization treatment was T2 urea + KH2PO4. This indicates that Phalaenopsis seedlings need sufficient N, P and K during the seedling stage. In treatments with low N content, the proportional increase in leaf area was relatively reduced. Trace elements clearly promoted the leaf growth of Phalaenopsis. 2) Effects of different fertilization treatments on Phalaenopsisorchidbud formation and peduncle development During theorchidbud differentiation period, the required fertilizer factors differed. It can be seen that fertilization treatments with low N content but high P and K content had somewhat higher flower bud rates. For example, the F5 compound fertilizer + KH2PO4 + trace elements treatment, the F1 Huabao No. 1 treatment, and the F7 urea + KH2PO4 + trace elements treatment. Treatments with low P and K such as F6 Greenfenwei had somewhat lower flower bud rates. Judging from the length of peduncle development, the urea + KH2PO4 + trace elements treatment had the best effect, followed by compound fertilizer + trace elements, and Greenfenwei had the worst effect.
