How to water orchids in summer? A new method for summer watering
A new method for watering orchids in summer
According to the usual past saying, many orchid books also write it this way:orchidsshould be watered in summer in the morning or evening, not at noon, and especially not under high sunlight and heat. In fact, this saying is not absolutely correct either.
In June of the year before last, I saw orchid enthusiasts in Shawan, Xiangyu, watering variousorchids(silver-edged, golden-lipped, white ink, etc.) under the orchid shed around one o'clock at noon, under high sunlight and heat. After I returned, I tried it on somewild-collected orchids, and indeed it was not only harmless, but actually beneficial toorchidgrowth. In June of this year, I again saw orchid enthusiasts in Chencun, Shunde, watering silver drag, silver-edged, small peach red, white ink, and others around twelve o'clock noon under high sunlight and heat. So, starting in June of this year, for the silver-edged, white ink, and wild-collected variegated-leaf orchids I grow, on sunny days with high sunlight and heat, I insisted on watering once each day at noon (with sunlight, temperature 34 degrees), in the afternoon (also with sunlight, temperature 32 degrees), and in the evening (without sunlight, temperature 30 degrees). After watering, the temperature in the orchid shed immediately dropped by 4-5 degrees. Compared with before, the effect of doing this was very obvious: on the opened leaf surface there were basically no black spots; (2) the leaf tips did not scorch; (3) the new leaves grew well. My method is: (1) first wet the orchid shed environment as much as possible; (2) use a fine-hole watering can or nozzle to focus on wetting the leaf surface and the underside of the leaves; (3) be careful to keep the orchid roots from becoming too wet. Practice has proven that watering at noon in summer when the temperature is high makes very good sense: just as when a person finishes laboring under the scorching sun, covered in sweat, and returns home to take a cool shower, how comfortable that is. Orchid enthusiasts may want to give it a try, and I hope it will be explored in greater depth.
