Identification and Control of Fusarium Wilt (Wilt Disease)

Fusarium Wilt (Wilt Disease)

Cause: Caused by pathogen infection. The pathogen invades the orchid plant through wounds on injured leaves, cuts from division, or cracks in the leaf sheaths. Symptoms: When Chinese orchids (Cymbidium) are infected with this disease, white spots, yellowish-brown streaks, or necrotic lesions appear on the leaf surface. The disease starts from the leaf tip and spreads inward, eventually causing the entire leaf to wither, yellow, shrivel, and drop off. Prevention: This disease is easily transmitted through water, so the watering method of immersing orchid pots in a bucket should be avoided. Secondly, the orchid growing area should ensure good ventilation and sunlight. Planting materials should preferably be sterilized before use. The orchid growing area should be regularly sprayed with 80% mancozeb at 800 times dilution. Treatment: There is no cure for infected orchid plants; they should be removed and destroyed as soon as possible to prevent infection of other healthy plants. Zhang Fengrong
