Application of Potassium Permanganate in Agricultural Production
Applications of Potassium Permanganate
Potassium permanganate, also known as "gray manganese oxygen, manganese strong ash" and also called PP powder, is used in medicine as a disinfectant and preservative, and as an external disinfectant. It has a certain efficacy for superficial diseases caused by bacterial infections and fungal infections, and is also a strong oxidizing agent, and can also remove odors, etc.
Because potassium permanganate releases oxygen slowly, the soaking time must reach 5 minutes to kill bacteria. When preparing the aqueous solution, use cool boiled water; hot water will cause it to decompose and lose effectiveness. The prepared aqueous solution can only be kept for about two hours. When the solution turns brownish-purple, it has lost its disinfecting effect, so it is best to prepare it fresh each time and not use it long-term.
However, for mold-related diseases, it not only fails to control mold reproduction but sometimes worsens the condition; generally, broad-spectrum antibiotics and other medications should be used.
At present, directlyorchidsduring the peak incidence period, orchid enthusiasts should use potassium permanganate with caution and treat the root cause with the right remedy, otherwise your prized orchid will flow eastward like a river in spring, never to return.
Regarding the application of potassium permanganate onorchids, in principle I only use it in the following situations:
1. For newly purchased seedlings with rotten roots, hollow roots, damaged roots, broken roots, or wounded pseudobulbs, soak in a 1500-fold solution for five minutes, then dry. It kills bacteria if present, and the key lies in wound healing.
2. When the orchid pot's substrate and fertilizer are too rich, because the orchid pot has been used for a long time, nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium increase, causingorchidsto become eutrophic. Use a 1500-fold potassium permanganate solution to water the entire pot for about 8-12 hours, then water thoroughly with clean water.
3. When the orchid pot, due to long-term use, has an off-odor in the potting medium, combine with April anti-corrosion measures and apply once using the above method.
4. When homemade fertilizer water has too strong an odor, add an appropriate amount of potassium permanganate.
The above is provided solely for orchid enthusiasts' reference.
