How to make a homemade drainage cover

Spring has arrived, and orchid growers everywhere have started the new year's repotting work. Growing orchids is all about nurturing qi,orchidsand when the qi flows smoothly, all kinds of problems are fewer. When the qi in the pot is lively, the watering problem is also solved. After reading a few of Xiaoye's posts, I found that some of Xiaoye's drainage covers are also homemade. Combining that with my own experience of making drainage covers over the past few years, I'd like to share a few thoughts with fellow orchid growers here, and I hope you'll point out anything that's not right. The following are my reasons for making my own drainage covers: 1. Different pot sizes should use corresponding drainage covers, but the drainage covers (tubes) available on the market are usually of a single type, with only one model, and they are not available for purchase in every place. They are very inconvenient to use. 2. Every orchid grower uses pots of different sizes according to the orchid species being grown. If everyone used a uniformly sized drainage tube, it could not fully improve the air circulation in the pot. 3. Using waste items produced in daily life to make drainage covers is a good thing that kills two birds with one stone. Tools needed for making them: 1. Electric soldering iron 2. Various household waste items such as: mineral water bottles, Sprite bottles, milk cups, packaging tubes from children's snacks such as: yogurt tablets, M&M's chocolate, etc. 3. Scissors. Making method: 1. Use the electric soldering iron to burn holes as densely as possible in mineral water bottles and similar items so they provide good ventilation. 2. Use scissors to cut mineral water bottles and Sprite bottles into two halves to be used as different drainage covers. Below are pictures, which may make it clearer. After using drainage covers, myorchidshave rarely had root rot. Interested orchid growers can give it a try; perhaps you'll get unexpected results. (Deng Weijian)
