Two misconceptions about fertilizing variegated orchids
Misconception 1: Applying nitrogen fertilizer will turn the variegation green
Misconception 2: Applying magnesium fertilizer will cause the variegation to revert (run off)
As is widely known, leaf variegation is a hereditary change in the color and form of orchid leaves, and whether it evolves is only related toorchids' gene changes. Nitrogen is a major nutrient element for plants, and magnesium is a trace nutrient element; neither nutrient element, whether in theory or in practice, can change genetic genes. It is as impossible as a black mother giving birth to a white-skinned child just because she ate a meal or took iron supplements for her blood. We have indeed also carried out experiments in this regard: after applying the two fertilizers, the variegation not only did not revert but actually grew even better. (Liu Jingqiu)
