What are the control methods for bacterial brown rot?
Bacterial brown rot
Distribution: worldwide; more commonly seen in China, Japan and the United States.
Pathogen: Erwinia cypripedii.
Hosts: Cymbidium, Cypripedium, Paphiopedilum, Phalaenopsis.
Symptoms: water-soaked yellow small spots appear on the leaves; the lesions later turn chestnut brown and may become sunken; they often spread rapidly to successively produced leaves, then destroy the leaves and even the whole plant. This disease is mostly seen in humid, warm environments.
Control: remove the diseased parts (leaves) until only a short stem remains. Then spray with 200mg/L agricultural streptomycin, or with 0.5% Bordeaux mixture, once every 10 days, with good results. (Chen Xinqi, Ji Zhanhe)
