Growing Orchids in Moss

Growing Chinese orchids in moss differs considerably from growing them in potting soil. Usually the lower 1/3 to 1/4 of the pot is filled with broken bricks and tiles, with larger pieces placed lower down and smaller ones above, to improve drainage and aeration. Soak the moss in water first, squeeze out the excess water, and add a small amount of broken bricks and charcoal pieces 1-1.5 cm in diameter. Place theorchidroots and 1/3 of the pseudobulbs wrapped in moss into the prepared pot, then fill in more moss around them, press it firm, and trim the moss on the pot surface level with scissors. Keep the orchid in a well-ventilated, shady spot, and it will recover and grow fairly quickly. At present, this method is widely used for growing Chinese orchids and artistic orchids in Taiwan, China;cultivationmanagement is simple and convenient, the orchidsgrow well, and when grownindoorsthey are also relatively clean.
