Symptoms and Control Methods of Dendrobium Mosaic Virus Disease
Dendrobium mosaic virus (Dendrobium
1. Damage: Distributed in Japan, mainly harming Dendrobium.
2. Symptoms: Obvious mosaic and green ring spots appear on Dendrobium. Chenopodium amaranticolor can serve as its indicator plant; after virus concentration, local chlorotic spots form on Chenopodium amaranticolor.
3. Pathogen: Dendrobiumorchidmosaic virus (Dendrobium mosaic virus, DeMV), filamentous particles, size 750nmX13nm, forms inclusion bodies in the plant cell cytoplasm, thermal inactivation point 50-55°C, in vitro survival period 4-8 days.
4. Disease characteristics: Sap transmission of the virus.
5. Control methods:
(1) For some valuable virus-freeorchids, they must be isolated fromorchidproduction bases forcultivation;
(2) For horticultural operations such as division and repotting, fingers and tools must be disinfected again after planting each plant;
(3) Root washing cannot be done in the same container; running water should be used for root washing;
(4) Media such as peat, moss and gravel used for cultivatingorchidsshould be disinfected.
