When to plant organic edamame? Master the right climate and sowing time

Trial cultivation was carried out in the Yilan area from 1991 to 1993 (the 80th to 82nd years of the Republic of China calendar), and the results showed that this area is also suitable for planting. Edamame has a short growing period and is suitable for organic cultivation; by using pure organic fertilizers together with non-chemical or various biological control techniques to reduce the amount of chemical fertilizers and pesticides applied, reduce their pollution of the environment, and explore the most economical and effective production and cultivation methods.
This trial cultivation was carried out in early April and early May of 1998 (the 87th year of the Republic of China calendar) at two separate sites in Zhuangwei Township, each with a trial area of 0.1 hectares. The varieties tested were edamame Kaohsiung Selection No. 1 and Kaohsiung No. 5 respectively. Before land preparation and sowing in the trial plots, organic fertilizer was applied at 3 metric tons per hectare, with a row spacing of 45X15 cm.
Trial results: yield per hectare was 4,910-5,800 kg, output value was 171,850-203,000 yuan, and income was 69,600-100,750 yuan.
Comparing by variety, the yield of Kaohsiung No. 5 was 18.1% higher than that of Kaohsiung Selection No. 1, so its output value was also higher.
Comparison of sowing times: there was not much difference between April and May. Edamame is suitable for organic cultivation, but because its price and quality are hard to compete with those of the central and southern regions, promotion in the Yilan area should adopt a small-volume, diversified model.
