How to choose soil for potted plants? A guide to picking the right potting soil
How to choose potting soil for potted plants
Potted plants grow in a special micro-environment. Because the soil volume in a pot is limited, its ability to buffer water and nutrients is relatively poor, so potting soil has stricter requirements. Good potting soil should be loose, with good water permeability and aeration, while also having a strong capacity to hold water and retain nutrients. It should also be relatively light in weight and widely available. Loose soil with good aeration is good for root growth and development and for the activity of microorganisms in the root zone; good drainage prevents root rot caused by waterlogging; and good water retention and nutrient-holding capacity keeps a constant supply of sufficient water and nutrients available for the growth and development of the flowers.
