Molluscicide for Controlling Orchid Pests: Metaldehyde
Orchid Insecticide - Metaldehyde
Metaldehyde (i.e., polymerized acetaldehyde) is an agent specifically used to kill snails and slugs.
The pure product is a colorless rhombic crystal; the industrial product has a purity of over 97%. It is poorly soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol and ether, and soluble in benzene and chloroform. During storage, if not kept properly, it easily decomposes.
Formulations: 3.3% metaldehyde and 5% calcium arsenate mixture; 4% metaldehyde and 5% sodium fluorosilicate mixture.
How to use: A bait containing 2.5%-6% active ingredient can be prepared with soybean cake or corn and applied to the ground in the evening to lure and kill. Apply the 3.3% metaldehyde and 5% calcium arsenate mixture directly on the ground in the evening at a dosage of 1g/m2.
Precautions: Do not use iron containers with solder for packaging. (Liu Zhongjian)
