Simple greenhouse works well, worth farmers' reference

To give weak or damaged orchid plants and old pseudobulbs a more suitable temperature and humidity, reduce water evaporation, and avoid sunburn from direct sunlight and other unfavorable growing conditions, some orchid growers build greenhouses and achieve good results; some orchid growers modify balconies and also achieve similar results; some orchid growers have none of the above conditions, so they use glass incubators, plastic bags over flower pots and other methods, but glass incubators are heavy, hard to move and easily broken, and managing plastic bags is troublesome. In practice, the author found a simple method that makes do with whatever is available and is also easy to manage. After trial use, the results are quite good: roots and shoots grow quickly, and the orchid plants are tender and moist. It is introduced as follows: I. Materials: 1. 17cm plastic flower pot; 2. empty 5L edible oil bucket; 3. 0.5, 12cm long plastic hollow tube; 4. sphagnum moss, pond mud, small stones, brick granules and other potting media. II. Method: 1. Cut off the plastic bucket starting from the beginning of the spout taper; there is no need to deliberately cut it flat and even, let it be slightly uneven for moderate ventilation; 2. Use transparent tape to stick the plastic tube to the four corners of the plastic bucket, with the lower end suspended 5cm in the air, to play a fixing role after covering the pot. III. Management: Plant the orchid in the pot with potting medium, cover it with the plastic bucket, and place it in a sunny, warm place. During the day, keep the temperature controlled at 25-28°C to keep the potting medium warm and moist. According to the author's controlled experiments using multiple groups of pots and potting media, sphagnum moss is the best choice of potting medium. First, it can reduce the number of waterings; watering once every ten days to half a month or even longer is enough. Second, choosing a black plastic pot absorbs heat, which helps raise the potting medium temperature, and roots and shoots grow quickly. Under this environment, trial-grownorchidsin one or two months of the growing period already have new roots about 3-5cm long and new shoots about 5cm high.
