What are the three major pain points in the development of rural e-commerce in China?
Wang Xiaobing, deputy director of the Market and Economic Information Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, said recently that developing rural e-commerce is an important means of accelerating the transformation of China's agricultural development model, but at the current stage, in the process of developing rural e-commerce in China, it also faces three major pain points: high costs, difficulty in making a profit, and the spread of counterfeit goods.
Speaking at the "First China E-commerce Industry Investment and Cross-border Summit Forum" held here, Wang Xiaobing said that China's rural e-commerce faces three major pain points in its development: First, developing e-commerce was originally an important channel for reducing the transaction costs of agricultural products, but the fact is that in order to meet consumers' personalized and precise consumption needs, many agricultural product e-commerce platforms mainly rely on scattered express delivery for logistics and transportation, and costs have not come down; second, for agriculture, the vast majority of e-commerce platforms still have not made money; third, e-commerce should originally be the most trustworthy platform, but the current reality is that there are many counterfeit goods on agricultural product e-commerce platforms.
Wang Xiaobing believes that to achieve sustainable development of rural e-commerce, the relationship between the market and the government must first be handled correctly, and the government should provide a better environment, including the policy environment, institutional environment, market supervision environment, and so on. At the same time, cross-border e-commerce platforms for agricultural products should be vigorously developed to expand overseas markets. It is necessary to study how to seize the opportunities of implementing national strategies such as the "Belt and Road." While increasing imports, especially imports of resource-based products, ways must be found to enable China's high-quality and distinctive agricultural products to "go global" using cross-border e-commerce platforms.
It is reported that the "First China E-commerce Industry Investment and Cross-border Summit Forum" was hosted by the China International Investment Promotion Association. At the meeting, the E-commerce Working Committee of the China International Investment Promotion Association was established, and topics such as how to promote the development of cross-border e-commerce with the help of China's overseas commercial institutions and the "Belt and Road" strategy were discussed.
