Ministry of Agriculture Deploys Agricultural Big Data Development Work to Boost Agricultural Modernization
According to a report by China National Radio's "Sannong China," the Ministry of Agriculture recently issued the "Implementation Opinions on Promoting the Development of Agricultural and Rural Big Data," comprehensively deploying the development of agricultural and rural big data.
The "Opinions" clarify five foundational tasks and eleven key areas for the development and application of agricultural and rural big data, including consolidating the construction of the national agricultural data center, promoting data sharing and openness, and giving play to the functions of various types of data; highlighting 11 key areas such as supporting the intelligentization of agricultural production and implementing precise monitoring of agricultural resources and the environment.
Amid fierce market competition and difficulties in selling agricultural products, agricultural big data is becoming increasingly important. Li Guoxiang, deputy director of the Macro Division of the Rural Development Institute at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, believes that if various types of data can be aggregated, then under the guidance of big data, farmers can basically grasp the general trends of agricultural products, agricultural production will no longer be blind, and greater losses can be avoided:
⟦NL> Li Guoxiang: The content of agricultural and rural big data is extremely broad. The data collected by China's statistical system are all important content of big data, such as grain production data, price data, and farmers' income data. These are all big data. With the development of internet technology, especially new business forms for rural farmers, such as the development of agricultural products through e-commerce, the content contained in big data in the future should be even broader. Data that could not be collected in the past can be collected through modern new technologies and the development of e-commerce. The quantity and prices of agricultural product transactions were often "three parts statistics, seven parts estimation" in the past, and were not very accurate, so their guiding significance for agricultural production and farmers' lives was greatly constrained and restricted.
In addition, in order to ensure that the development of agricultural and rural big data is solidly advanced and achieves practical results, the "Opinions" set out arrangements for the implementation schedule, and also required agricultural departments at all levels to effectively fulfill their responsibilities and promote the improvement of infrastructure. In Li Guoxiang's view, agricultural big data will play an important role in China's agricultural modernization process:
Li Guoxiang: In the future, we must establish the concept of big data, because information technology for credit and the new business forms being developed can generate data in a timely manner. In the future, these data may directly guide farmers' production, circulation, and logistics, especially as farmers in the future produce according to sales, customized agriculture, smart agriculture, and precision agriculture will fully utilize big data. I believe that in the future, big data will play an increasingly important role in agricultural modernization, new rural construction, and farmers' march toward a moderately prosperous life.
